  11. The SNMP Working Group of the IETF met on Monday morning, March 11,
  12. 1991.  J. Davin acted as Chair in lieu of Marshall Rose, who was unable
  13. to attend.

  15. The Working Group considered two documents:

  18.    o The MIB for Ethernet-like Interfaces
  19.      <draft-ietf-snmp-ethernetmib-03.txt> and
  20.  
  21.    o The SMDS Interface Protocol MIB
  22.      <draft-ietf-snmp-smdsipmib-00.txt>

  25. A brief presentation of the Ethernet MIB was made by J. Davin to
  26. refamiliarize Working Group members with the current status of this
  27. longstanding effort.  There followed a section-by-section discussion of
  28. the document.  The Working Group decided on several minor changes:
  29.

  31.    o Two typographical errors in enumerated type definitions were
  32.      corrected.
  33.  
  34.    o Text was added to the document to guide users of the MIB in how to
  35.      interpret error counts when an agent may be unable to accurately
  36.      report all instances of certain error conditions.

  38.    o The set of names of Ethernet-like chipsets (for use with the
  39.      Interface Extensions MIB) was enlarged.
  40.

  42. With these changes, the Working Group recommended that the document be
  43. considered by the IESG for Proposed Standard status.
  44.  
  45. In the second half of the meeting, Kaj Tesink introduced the group to
  46. the SMDS Interface Protocol MIB by giving an overview presentation on
  47. the SIP itself and the structure of the proposed MIB. A discussion of
  48. the document followed.  Some concerns were raised about the relationship
  49. of this MIB to the interfaces group of MIB II, about the policy
  50.

  58. questions involved in the choice of objects, about syntactic and naming
  59. conventions used in the MIB, and about the clarity of some of the
  60. counter definitions.  At the end of the discussion, the Working Group
  61. decided to consider this MIB further in subsequent meetings.
